- 1.4. Quick Start

- 1.4.1. MIDI Port Setup
-
- When first time you launch MIDIGraphy, the "MIDI port setup" dialog will
- appear. Choose one of MIDI ports to use:
- * Choose the "Modem port" item or the "Printer port" item if you use a
- MIDI sound generator connected to the modem or printer port of your
- Macintosh.
- * Choose the "Use MIDI manager" item if you use MIDIGraphy with Apple
- MIDI Manager and a compatible sound device.
- * Choose the "Use OMS" item if you use MIDIGraphy with Open Music System.
- Then choose the input port name and the output port name to use by the
- popup menus.
- * Choose the "Use QuickTime" item if you use QuickTime 2.0 or later as a
- sound generator.
- * If you don't need to play back your sequences, you can choose the
- "None" item.

- If you want to change the MIDI port setup after you launch MIDIGraphy,
- choose the menu item "MIDI > MIDI port setup".

- * NOTE to use with Apple MIDI Manager:
- o If you use MIDIGraphy with Apple MIDI Manager, you have to setup
- port connections after you choose the "Use MIDI Manager" item on
- the "MIDI port setup" dialog. You can setup port connections by
- using the PatchBay application provided with Apple MIDI Manager.
- For details, refer documents of Apple MIDI Manager or online-help
- of the PatchBay application.
- * NOTE to use with OMS:
- o If you use MIDIGraphy with OMS, you have to setup the "OMS setup"
- before you configure on MIDIGraphy. For details about the "OMS
- setup", refer the documents of OMS.
- * NOTES to use with QuickTime:
- o While sequence is in playback, a program change event might be
- executed on time later than expected.
- o You must install both QuickTime 2.0 (or later) and "QuickTime
- Musical Instruments". These extensions must be placed in the
- extensions folder in your system folder.
- o To use MIDI input device via the QuickTime, you have to setup
- devices by the "QuickTime Settings" control panel.

- 1.4.2. Loading Sequence File

- Choosing the menu item "File > Open..." prompts for a sequence file to open.
- MIDIGraphy supports to read the SMF format 0/1, the RCP file, the SNG file
- and the SLG file.
- If you select an LHA archive in the file open dialog, one more dialog which
- allows you to choose a file in the selected LHA archive will appear. Choose
- a file (SMF, RCP, SNG or SLG), and click OK. MIDIGraphy can load a file from
- the LHA archive directly without your extracting process.

- 1.4.3. Playing Sequences

- To play the currently open sequence, choose the menu item "MIDI > Play >
- all" or click the play button (with a triangle icon ) on the control bar
- positioned at the top of the sequence window.
- To stop playing your sequence, choose the menu item "MIDI > Stop" or click
- the stop button (with a square icon ) on the control bar.
